SUMMARY:TDF Anne Barlow Ramsey Annual $25\,000 Grant Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this annual grant is to showcase talented American-bred horses ridden by United States citizens\, by providing funds to train and compete in Europe. The horse and rider applicants will be competing successfully at Prix St. George or higher\, and demonstrate an ability to move forward into High Performance competetion. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to be an ambassador for the American-bred horse in Europe.\nDr. Ramsay’s dream to advance equestrian sport took shape in 1998\, when she established a Charitable Remainder Unitrust\, funded with $254\,000 of highly appreciated Abbott Laboratory stock. She wanted to provide financial backing for a designated horse and rider with a ten-year income stream. She worked with John Boomer\, then President and CEO of The Dressage Foundation\, to create the Unitrust and put her plan into action. There have been many beneficiaries: 1) Her horse and rider had the support of a ten-year income stream\, paid monthly\, which ran through 2008; 2) Dr. Ramsay gained solid tax advantages by avoiding the federal and state capital gain taxes on the appreciated value of the stock\, and she received a substantial charitable contribution income tax deduction\, thereby reducing her income tax payable. 3) The sport of Dressage gains by receiving future annual grants of $25\,000\, to send American-bred horses to Europe for upper level training and competition. Dr. Ramsay designated The Dressage Foundation as sole\, irrevocable charitable remainderman to whom the Unitrust “remainder” was paid in January of 2009. This funding will make these future training grants possible. \nAND\, there’s a Part II to Dr. Ramsay’s visionary plan: Working with The Dressage Foundation\, she created a second ten-year term Charitable Remainder Unitrust\, with the same conditions and monetary value\, extending the reach of her good training support well out into future years. \nThe Anne L. Barlow Ramsay Annual Grant will be managed and administered by The Dressage Foundation. A Selection Committee comprised of distinguished\, experienced Dressage leaders will review the applications\, and choose the recipient\, subject to the approval of The Dressage Foundation’s Board of Directors. The grant announcement will be made by December 31st of each year. \nEmail: info@dressagefoundation.org\nPhone: (402) 434-8585

SUMMARY:TDF Major Anders Lindgren Scholarship Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Major Anders Lindgren was an accomplished dressage rider\, having won the 1971 Swedish Dressage Championship and ridden on the Swedish Olympic Team in 1972. He also won the Scandinavian Eventing Championship in 1959. Lindgren’s contribution to American Dressage was large\, as he was solidly committed to the education of U.S. Dressage instructors. Over a ten-year period\, almost 1\,000 participating instructors learned from his systematic\, structural approach to teaching Dressage at the USDF/Violet Hopkins National Seminars for Dressage Instructors\, and then at the National Symposium. Major Lindgren passed away in 2010\, at the age of 85. \nThe Dressage Foundation is proud to offer $10\,000 in annual scholarships in Major Lindgren’s name\, funded through the Carol Lavell Gifted Memorial Fund. In 2011\, we were pleased to announce that the Major Anders Lindgren Scholarship was restructured to offer funding to more instructors\, to train in the U.S. \nTwo $2\,000 Scholarships will be awarded each year to dressage instructors to train in a concentrated amount of time of at least one week. Applicants are not required to be Certified Instructors\, but it is suggested that applicants use the scholarship money to train with a Certified Instructor or USDF Instructor Certification Program Faculty Member. \nOne $6\,000 Scholarship will be awarded each year to a dressage instructor\, preferably to those in the USDF Certified pool\, Training through Fourth Levels. The scholarship will enable the applicant to train in a longer concentrated time period. \nYou may apply for one scholarship – please choose between a $2\,000 scholarship and a $6\,000 scholarship. \nAdditional selection criteria for Lindgren Scholarships are as follows: \n1. The recipient is to be a citizen of the United States. Be prepared to prove citizenship. \n2. Talented and successful dressage instructors are eligible to apply. The Scholarships are to help an instructor improve his/her teaching and training of dressage\, and to give the recipient the opportunity to improve his or her riding skills. \n3. The scholarship funds must be used to spend time training away from home and cannot be used towards a clinic or for show purposes. \nThe following are scholarship requirements: \n1. The recipients of the scholarships are required to provide a written training and financial report of his or her experience to The Dressage Foundation. Suggestions for the written report will be furnished to the recipients. The report is due within two months following the completion of the training. \n2. The recipient of the $6\,000 scholarship must use the funds within two years of the date of the award. The recipients of the $2\,000 scholarships must use the funds within one year of the date of the award. For all recipients\, 75% of scholarship funds will be paid prior to the recipient’s departure for training; 25% will be paid after the applicant has completed training\, and has submitted a training and financial report to The Dressage Foundation. \nA Selection Committee of dressage professionals reviews all application information\, and recommends the recipients to The Dressage Foundation Board of Directors. We will notify all applicants of the Committee’s decision no later than December 31st of each year\, and the funds will be available to the recipients after January 1st. \nComplete applications MUST arrive in our office on or before September 30\, 2012. We will not accept any material after this deadline. \nEmail: info@dressagefoundation.org\nPhone: (402) 434-8585

DESCRIPTION:This Fund was seeded with Donations received in special remembrance of Carol’s great dressage horse\, Gifted. Many other friends of The Dressage Foundation have added Donations and the Scholarship Fund has grown steadily over the years. This Scholarship enables Adult Amateurs to set aside quality-time\, in concentrated training away from the daily pressures of job and family\, with a horse the recipient owns.\nEach year The Dressage Foundation receives a larger number of applications for this Scholarship. In order to give this opportunity to as many new Adult Amateurs as possible\, we award the scholarship only once to a recipient. \nShould a scholarship not be awarded in a given Region\, the money will remain in the Gifted Fund at the Foundation. \nContact: The Dressage Foundation Staff\nEmail: jenny@dressagefoundation.org\nPhone: (402) 434-8585

SUMMARY:Applications open for the Linda Acheson Education Fund at the Dressage Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Dressage Society Education Fund was established at ODS in 1998 and was renamed in 2004 as a memorial to Linda S. Acheson\, former ODS President\, Treasurer\, and “L program” graduate. \nAs a Certified Public Accountant\, Linda was instrumental in modernizing the ODS office and the financial records. Additionally\, Linda was an advocate of rider and instructor education. She organized the first ODS Certified Instructor Program\, supported the ODS “L” Education Program\, and judged many schooling shows. \nDuring her tenure as ODS President\, Linda established this Fund with the intent to create a specific educational Fund from which the earnings could be used to finance educational events and programs – in whole\, or part – for the benefit of ODS members. In 2016\, the ODS Board of Directors transferred the Fund to The Dressage Foundation for administration and management. \nGrants:\nThe goal of the ODS Linda S. Acheson Fund is to provide grants to ODS\, ODS Chapters\, and ODS Committees that are organizing educational events which will benefit the Oregon dressage community and help further the mission of the Oregon Dressage Society.  Preference for grants will be given to ODS Chapters.  ODS\, ODS Chapters\, and ODS Committees are separate entities that may each apply for one grant from this Fund per year.   \nTypes of events that are eligible for grants include:  USDF Instructor Certification Programs\, USDF ‘L’ Judging Programs\, symposiums\, seminars\, camps\, clinics.  Preference is given to USDF-approved programs.  Grants will typically range from $250 – $1\,000. \nAdditional Grant Information:\n\nTDF will begin accepting applications on September 15th of each year and the grant period will close on November 15th. All applications must be received by the TDF office on or before November 15th to be considered. No late applications will be accepted.\nGrants must be used for an event to be held in the year following the application deadline (i.e. an application submitted by November 15\, 2017\, must be for an event scheduled in 2018).\nEvents must apply for USDF University Credit to be eligible for a grant. \nAn independent Selection Committee will review the applications and make selections based on published criteria and guidelines. The committee reserves the right to not award a grant in any given year if they determine that no application has met the criteria. The applications and discussions of the selection committee are confidential and their decisions are final.\nFor educational events that are selected to receive a grant\, 75% of the grant will be sent one month prior to the event\, with the final 25% sent after an evaluation form and final budget is received by TDF. \nEducational event grants are to be used to reach the break-even point\, and not to make a profit. If the grant is not needed to break even on the event\, the grant must be returned to the ODS Linda S. Acheson Education Fund at TDF.\nNot all events that apply for funding are guaranteed to receive a grant.\n\n– See more at: http://www.dressagefoundation.org/grants-and-programs/apply/educational_clinics_seminars_symposia/ods-linda-acheson-fund.html#sthash.SW5hgu52.dpuf

Maryal is a long-time premier US Dressage Instructor\, and The Dressage Foundation is pleased and honored that she has arranged to “give back” to her beloved sport in this special way. \nMaryal states\, “The future of dressage and the welfare of our horses is dependent on the quality of education that our professionals obtain. There were people in my life such as Violet Hopkins and Lowell Boomer who were instrumental in making education possible for me\, and many others through their generosity and foresight. Lowell Boomer\, along with many others\, saw the importance of education; and they founded the United States Dressage Federation to unite and educate Dressage enthusiasts. Violet Hopkins gave her farm\, time and wisdom each Summer to make the Vi Hopkins Seminar for Dressage Instructors possible for those of us hungering for more knowledge. Now\, it is my desire to give back to the sport that has given me such a rewarding and happy life. That is why I want to help to make it possible for other present and future dressage instructors/trainers to be able to obtain quality education through The Continuing Education for Dressage Instructors Grants.” \nMaryal Barnett’s fund is administered at The Dressage Foundation. \nEmail: info@dressagefoundation.org\nPhone: (402) 434-8585

SUMMARY:TDF Michael Poulin Dressage Fund Grant Application Deadline
DESCRIPTION:The Michael Poulin Dressage FundFriends\, students and supporters of Michael Poulin established the Fund at the Dressage Foundation in 2003. The Fund was authorized and established by a Resolution of the Board of Directors of The Dressage Foundation. The Resolution spells out the governance and operating policies/procedures for the Fund\, and provides a stewardship road map for today and tomorrow. \nPurpose\nThe purpose of The Michael Poulin Dressage Fund is to provide funding support for programs and projects that enhance the quality of Dressage in the United States\, through any and all of its component disciplines – riding\, competing\, training\, instructing and judging. The Dressage Foundation seeks grant applications that contain bold\, creative\, innovative ideas for the improvement and strengthening of Dressage.
